Belonging to Gipuzkoa and located strategically between Bizkaia and Alava, Leintz Gatzaga sits in Leinz Valley, in the district of Alto Deba, the geographical centre of the Basque Country.

It is close to industrial areas, such as Arrasate or Aretxabaleta; it borders to the north with Eskoriatza and to the south with the municipalities of Legutiano, Arruazua-Ubarrundia and Barrundia, which belong to the Historical Territory of Alava.

The district covers 14.7 square kilometres of winding and mountainous terrain mainly covered in forests.

The town stands on a steep hill and used to be on the Royal Road that connected Madrid with the sea.
